Xinhua Article – How China’s new central leadership are elected

I thought the following article was interesting as the western media seemed to have little idea of the process for arriving at the new leadership names. Of course this is the bare process and does not reveal the influences that came to bear.  But, in the end it is a consultative process among the senior Party leaders with clear criteria, which, even with the communist criteria, would eliminate all Western leaders. There is no short cut. You have to have done long periods in the cities, towns or countryside and in responsible positions of leadership.

The criteria is a key reason why they have been so successful in their policies the last 38 years.
